The
Northwest Flower & Garden Show kicked off Tuesday, February 19, at the Washington State Convention Center, with the annual Arbor Eden Preview Gala, which gave guests for a first look at the 26 full-scale show gardens.
As part of the festivities on Tuesday,
Seattle Homes & Lifestyles judges selected Garden Dreams and Outdoor Living Environments’ “Garden Getaway” show garden for the third annual “Best in Residential Garden Design” award.
The judges loved the combination of dark chocolate brown and silvery blue-green. “It’s such a sophisticated interior color palette and it’s refreshing to see it used in the garden,” they decided.
“It looks like a Tiffany box,” remarked
SH&L contributing editor and judge Debra Prinzing. “Architecture and horticulture intersect perfectly in this garden. The design could complement a variety of architectural styles from contemporary to mid-century modern to craftsman.”
“Having a singular palette gives the garden a sophistication that is very unified,” agreed judge and art director Shawn Williams. “The designer chose a wide plant palette, yet it all looks cohesive because the foliage is in the same silver-to-verdigris spectrum.”
The Northwest Flower & Garden Show—the third-largest in North America—continues through Sunday, February 24, with seminars, demonstrations, garden-related vendors and a kids area, in addition to the ever-popular show gardens. Tickets are $19 for adults at the door (see the
NW Flower & Garden Show Web site for additional prices). Hours are 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Thursday-Saturday and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.
